FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Certashed delivers a comprehensive solution to bring your vision to life, whether it’s a studio, living space, or storage area.
How soon can I expect my Certashed unit?
For unpermitted Certashed orders, delivery typically takes 2–3 weeks from the order date. For units requiring installation, timelines may vary based on the availability of our professional installation crews. If permits are needed, lead times may extend depending on your local building department’s processing speed.
Is a building permit required?
Permit requirements depend on the size, intended use, and features of your Certashed unit. Always verify local regulations before ordering. Many municipalities now mandate permits for units with electrical components, and heating or cooling systems often necessitate permits and compliance with energy codes. Unpermitted units typically have faster delivery and lower costs, making our 10 x 12 or smaller models the most popular. To simplify permitting, Certashed provides customized, permit-ready plans tailored to your unit and location.
What is the cost of a Certashed unit?
The base Certashed building kit starts at $70–90 per square foot, depending on the model and size. Additional expenses, such as site preparation and permits, are not included in the estimate. Certashed’s efficient design and kit-based approach often make it a more cost-effective and simpler option compared to traditional home additions.
How does payment work, and is financing available?
Unpermitted orders require full payment upfront. For permitted units, a 50% deposit is due at ordering, with the remaining balance payable four weeks prior to delivery. We accept major credit cards and checks. For financing, many customers use a HELOC, or we suggest exploring quick and accessible options through Acorn Finance.
What about electrical setup?
Certashed units with interior packages include an electrical kit with fixtures, switches, and outlets for straightforward connection. Homeowners are responsible for trenching and connecting to the main power source, though our professional installers may offer this service in some cases. Depending on local regulations, an electrical permit may be required, which is typically simpler to obtain than a full building permit for our most popular models.
What are the roof and interior ceiling heights, and other key dimensions?
For a 10 x 12 Certashed unit, the interior ceiling height ranges from 7’6” at the back to 8’6” at the front. The exterior peak height varies from 9’3” to 9’8” depending on depth (slightly higher with our framed floor system versus a concrete foundation).
How can I heat and cool my Certashed unit?
A common choice is a ductless mini-split wall unit, typically sourced through a local installer. Note that adding a mini-split creates a habitable space, which may require a building permit and adherence to local energy codes.
Does Certashed offer a warranty?
All Certashed products and certified installations come with a 1-year warranty covering material defects and workmanship. Additional warranties from manufacturers apply to components like doors, windows, and roofing. Note that warranties for metal components (e.g., door hardware and roofing) are void for installations within 5 miles and 1100 yards (5/8 mile) of saltwater.
